M.V. Nottingham was sunk on 7 November 1941 during her maiden voyage by torpedoes fired by German submarine U-74. After being hit initially, she attempted to ram the submarine but failed and was finished off by further torpedoes. No Survivors

According to the CWGC database, the Date of Death of Mr. Cooper, who was Ship's Master, was the same as the date the ship was sunk. It appears that Mr Cooper was on board en route to Montreal where he was to take up a post with the Ministry of War Transport. - benjidog.co.uk
